Project engineer intern - summer 2024 (Chicago, IL)

As a Project Engineer Intern at SB Group, you will work under our preconstruction and project management teams assisting with document control, take-offs, estimating, scheduling, and preparation of RFIs, submittals, and change order requests. You will also learn to read drawings, attend client meetings, visit local jobsites, and work closely with vendors and subcontractors. SB Group intends to expose you to real life situations both in the office and in the field to maximize your learning experience.

Qualifications:

  • Actively enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year accredited university studying engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related discipline.

  • Previous construction related intern experience is preferred but not required.

  • Self-starter with a willingness and eagerness to learn.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and great time management skills.

  • Proficiency in relevant software such as Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate, coordinate, and build relationships with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.

  • Attend and participate in project meetings, generate meeting agendas, record, and distribute meeting minutes.

  • Assist with document control, take-offs, estimating, and scheduling.

Project engineer (Chicago, il)

As a Project Engineer at SB Group, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and managing all aspects of our projects. You will work closely with a Project Manager to ensure seamless execution of our construction projects.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related discipline.

  • 0-2 years' experience in a project engineer or similar role in the construction industry.

  • Demonstrated ability to read drawings and specifications.

  • Basic knowledge of construction industry practices and project management methodologies.

  • Basic knowledge of estimating, scheduling, subcontractor and vendor coordination, and general project administration.

  • Self-starter with a willingness and eagerness to learn.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Capable to project manage small-scale projects from start to finish under the supervision of a Project Manager.

  • Review project plans, requirements, and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project and determine scope of work.

  • Perform take-offs.

  • Prepare bid packages and request pricing from vendors and subcontractors.

  • Analyze and level competitive vendor and subcontractor bids under the supervision of a Project Manager.

  • Assist with cost estimation, value engineering, and budget management.

  • Draft proposals, RFIs, submittals, change order requests, and purchase orders under the supervision of a Project Manager.

  • Assist in the development of project schedules.

  • Monitor and track material deliveries ensuring they conform with the project schedule.

  • Assist with inventory tracking as well as warehouse and site logistics.

  • Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.

  • Assist with site management and punch list.

  • Lead closeout of projects including assembling manuals and other warranties for turnover to the client.

  • Project manage small-scale projects from start to finish under the supervision of a Project Manager.

  • Mentor and coach Interns.
